Random Drug Tests for Politicians

Great idea, let them lead the way, now watch the disinterest in this pathetic policy to drug test low income earners and those on Newstart.  8-)

Politicians, why don't you submit to drug testing?

Politicians must lead the way if they are to expect welfare recipients to be drug-tested.

A trial of 5000 welfare recipients to undertake random drug tests at Centrelink appointments, announced in Tuesday's federal budget, is discriminatory and unhelpful in overcoming substance abuse. Creating greater stigma around welfare recipients won't help rehabilitate people with substance abuse issues.

As my mother always said, "What's good for the goose is good for the gander," and while I don't usually apply this approach to policy, it certainly applies in this case.

Politicians and public servants are recipients of the taxpayer dollar and should be held accountable at the same, if not higher, standard as an unemployed person receiving the taxpayer dollar.
