Curtailing access to negative gearing on investment property could contribute to reducing Australia's budget deficit and securing the AAA credit rating, argues a former RBA board member.

There could be some small changes to negative gearing that just effect the top wealthiest while leaving the small investor alone to continue with current regulations.
